Resilient Minds
Erasmus Plus European Partner Project
About the project
-
Introduction
Within the European framework of EDU AWAKE, this KA220 project explores innovative approaches to integrate mindfulness, yoga and emotional well-being into the teachers profession. "Resilient minds" establishes a structured, evidence-based collaboration between European educational institutions.
The project addresses the growing need for emotional resilience and mental balance in the teaching profession. By combining pedagogical innovation, scientific evaluation and intercultural collaboration, it contributes to a new culture of awareness and emotional intelligence in European schools.
-
Objectives
The project aims to:
- Strengthen the emotional resilience and self-awareness of teachers through structured mindfulness- and yoga-based exercises.
- Develop and evaluate modular curricula for mindfulness and well-being in teacher education.
- Promote interpersonal empathy and social presence within classroom dynamics.
- Build a European community of practice linking research, training and implementation.
- Generate evidence-based recommendations for integration of the results in educational institutions.
- Contribution to EU priorities in mental health, inclusion, sustainability and digital innovation.
-
Project Structure and Work Packages
The project is organised in four interconnected Work Packages (WPs):
This work package forms the scientific and conceptual foundation of the project. Its focus lies on the research and systematisation of yoga, mindfulness and meditation techniques within the context of teacher education and pedagogical practice.
Rather than adopting existing models, the aim is to develop an evidence-based new aproach of how these techniques can strengthen teachers in their professional and personal development. The yoga, breathing and mindfulness methods used in the project are delivered in a fully secular, value-neutral and pedagogically oriented manner, without any spiritual or ideological framing — in alignment with contemporary teacher-education standards.
- Explore the effects of yoga and meditation practices on teachers’ emotional stability, self-awareness and resilience.
- Analyse which specific practices (breathing techniques, postures, concentration and relaxation methods) are most suitable for educational settings.
- Develop a pedagogical mapping framework that identifies where and how these techniques can be meaningfully applied in school contexts.
- Investigate the cultural and ethical dimensions of introducing yoga and meditation in education, ensuring that the methods are taught in an inclusive, value-neutral and intercultural way.
- Provide the conceptual foundation for the curriculum design in WP2 and the evaluation process in WP3.
Lead: Yoga Akademie Freiburg
Output: Analytical report and conceptual model (IO1)
This work package represents the practical core of the project – the translation of research findings from WP1 into a structured curriculum. It focuses on transforming mindfulness, yoga and meditation practices into pedagogical learning methods that can support teachers in their daily professional life. The aim is to design a modular curriculum and an accompanying handbook that can be easily used by teachers in schools, universities and training centres across Europe.
The methods are intended to be simple yet effective, helping educators to bring presence, empathy and self-regulation into the teacher-training context and into daily routines in the classrooms.
- Design of a modular curriculum with mindfulness, yoga and meditation practices that can support teachers in their daily professional life.
- Creation of accompanying handbook and online training materials.
Lead: Yoga Akademie Freiburg
Output: Curriculum & Handbook (IO2)
This work package is dedicated to the practical testing and scientific evaluation of the developed methods. The training methods from WP2 will be piloted in various European partner countries, allowing for real-life testing within educational environments. The central focus is to explore how yoga, meditation and mindfulness techniques actually impact stress levels, emotional balance, communication and classroom atmosphere. The evaluation combines both qualitative and quantitative approaches – including interviews, reflection groups and psychometric scales – to capture a comprehensive picture of impact. The outcome will be a scientifically grounded impact report, providing a foundation for a potential integration of mindfulness, meditation and yoga practices into European teacher education.
- Pilot implementation in 3-6 partner countries.
- Training activities (LTTs) for teachers and trainers.
- Collection of qualitative and quantitative data on impact (resilience, empathy, stress levels).
- Evaluation reports and recommendations.
Lead: University / School / NGO partner (TBA)
Output: Evaluation report and best-practice guidelines (IO3)
This work package ensures that the project results will continue to grow and circulate beyond the project’s lifetime. It focuses on European dissemination, partner networking and long-term sustainability. Through conferences, webinars, publications and a multilingual online platform, the project’s knowledge, tools and training methods will be made widely accessible. A sustainability strategy will describe, how results can continue to inspire future collaborations and training offers.
- Organisation of European dissemination events (conference, multiplier events, online webinars).
- Creation of a digital knowledge hub on mindfulness in education (videos, learning materials, training paths).
- Development of a sustainability roadmap for future collaborations and training offers
Lead: EDU AWAKE Network
Output: Online platform and sustainability strategy (IO4)
-
Methodology
The approach combines experiential learning, scientific evaluation and intercultural exchange. Regular transnational project meetings (TPMs) and Learning/Teaching/Training activities (LTTs) will ensure ongoing collaboration and shared development.
-
Results and dissemination
- International conferences and multiplier events
- Open online platform with multilingual access
- Long-term impact through remaining accessability of project outcomes after the project's completion
-
Project partners and management
Coordinator: Yoga Akademie Freiburg / EDU AWAKE (Germany)
Partners: Educational institutions, schools, universities and NGOs from at least three European countries (to be confirmed).
Each partner assumes responsibility for one Work Package, ensuring balanced workload and expertise distribution. -
Funding Framework
This KA220 Cooperation Partnership will be submitted under the Erasmus+ Programme (School Education). It is designed as a multi-year collaboration combining research, training and dissemination. Funding will support staff mobility, intellectual outputs, evaluation, and dissemination activities across partner countries.
